15 Jun 1973, St. James Street, Burnley. As the old clock comes down, the modern clock gifted by the Rotary Club can be seen in the foreground. A symbol of changing times in the town came on Friday 15th June 1973 when workmen lowered the huge old clock from the Palace block and took it away to be scrapped. One of the best known landmarks in Burnley, it was used by many people to check their watche
