Alma Hill, Up Holland, with the Old Dog Inn prominent and Up Holland parish church, St. Thomas the Martyr, in the background in January 1972. Notorious local highwayman, George Lyon, was born in Up Holland in 1761 and after his capture was executed at Lancaster Castle in 1815. The landlord of the Old Dog Inn, Simon Washington, brought his body back from Lancaster in preparation for burial at St. T
