Dales, Wheeldale Moor, 30th July 1971. Deep in the heart of the North York Moors National Park a Roman road makes a clean incision through the heather. No weed encroaches upon it. Every year many thousands walk along it but no litter is to be seen. The road, on Wheeldale Moor, is a national monument, too, to Mr. Geoffrey Hugill, 45, who has spent almost all of his working life on its upkeep. H
