8th September 1953 Holidaymakers on the cliffs and in pleasure boats anchored close inshore watched the naming ceremony of the new Flamborough lifeboat. This was the Friendly Forester which served from 1953 to 1983. This boat had been especially built at the Cowes boat yard of Groves and Guttridge for the Flamborough station.
