David Burnside, leader of the Piper Alpha Disaster Group arrives for the official Piper Alpha inquiry in Aberdeen, January 1989. In the world s worst oil rig disaster, 167 people were killed when Occidental Petroleum s Piper Alpha North Sea oil platform exploded after a gas leak in July 1988.
