Memory lane supplement With the growth in cars and coaches, coming into Blackpool there was no alternative but to widen what was then still known as Preston Road. The existing road was 20ft wide and, when it became Preston New Road that width was doubled. The photograph, dated April 2, 1930, showed the work in progress between the Clifton Arms Hotel - which can be seen top left - and Peel Bridge
