Robert Ponsonby leaning over chair , who had been nominated as successor to Festival director Ian Hunter in 1955 and took up the post in 1956, with Sir Malcolm Sargent right , conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, in Edinburgh in August 1955. Man on left not identified.
