A committee including Michael Hirst MP 4th right , George Foulkes 2nd left and Dr Charles Gillespie 3rd left were investigating Skoal Bandits, small pouches of chewing tobacco made by US Tobacco Inc. Public pressure was growing to ban the product after reports suggesting a link with oral cancer.
