A view along Central Promenade towards Blackpool Tower during the Illuminations of 1949. The Illuminations were prevented in 1939 by the start of World War Two , later restrictions on the use of fuel and decorative lighting and the austere climate of post-war Britain meant they didn t come on again until 1949.
